Important lawn and landscape tasks for

March:

* PRUNING:  After winter storms, check trees and shrubs

for snow or ice damage.  Remove any damaged branches to

prevent disease and pest issues.  Use proper pruning

techniques to prevent further damage to the tree or shrub.

* FRUIT TREES:  Now is the time to prune fruit trees.  Do this

after the worst of winter has passed but before spring growth

begins.

*  WATERING:  Make sure newly planted perennials have

sufficient soil moisture throughout the winter months.  Drying

out is one of the main reasons new plants don't make it

through the winter.

*  ICE PREVENTION: When spreading salt to melt ice on walks

and drives, use care not to get it on shrubs or perennials. 

Consider using sand or sawdust in heavily planted areas
